Capella University's Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa (2024)

Capella University's Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa (3)

The Pi Chapter consists of Capella University students, alumni, and faculty who have been initiated into the Delta Kappa, The International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, and who are members of AAMFT. We aim to train emerging leaders, promote research in the MFT field, and recognize and promote MFT achievements.

The mission of the Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa is to offer various networking and leadership opportunities that are not otherwise provided as Capella University learners, Capella University alumni, and members of the marriage and family therapy professional community (AAMFT). The Pi Chapter works to provide opportunities for local and virtual networking, exam preparation, and internship assistance as needed to enhance the assembly of the Pi Chapter. Members of the Pi Chapter work towards enhancing their advocacy and leadership experience in the field and provide a high quality to their clients, fellow professionals, and community with the skills enhanced by the Pi Chapter of Delta Kappa. To establish these characteristics, members are encouraged to participate in Pi Chapter Committees, support community members, gain legal awareness, and be actively involved in the Pi Chapter as well as AAMFT by upholding the AAMFT and Delta Kappa standards agreed upon during induction.

So, why Pi? (π)

The shape of the PI symbol has a single long horizontal line resting on top of two vertical lines. The horizontal line represents the final evolution from the student to the professional in the field of marriage and family therapy. The two vertical lines are pillars or columns, supporting the horizontal line and represent the distinction between the academic rigor and the leadership development based on the foundation aims of Delta Kappa. These two lines create two separate, perpendicular connections to the horizontal line representing the achievements that you, as students, make on a leadership level and an academic level. The first connection is meeting the academic requirements for the Delta Kappa International Honors Society for Marriage and Family Therapists. The second connection represents establishing the leadership skills developed through volunteering in committees, mentorships, and other activities for the Pi Chapter. These two pillars are the pedestals of those that support you in your journey through the Marriage and Family Therapy career field

WHO IS DELTA KAPPA?

One of the marks of a profession's development is the creation of institutionalized structures and customs that recognize and further the development of the field. Delta Kappa, the International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, is such an institution for the profession of marriage and family therapy. Delta Kappa, as the official honor society for the field of MFT, serves to further and complement the fine work being done by the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy, the American Family Therapy Academy, and the International Family Therapy Association. Delta Kappa recognizes the achievements of current students as well as practitioners already in the field who have achieved distinction and continue to make significant contributions to the field.

Delta Kappa, The International Marriage and Family Therapy Honor Society, has three primary aims. The first aim is to train emerging leaders in the field of marriage and family therapy to assume the mantle of leadership in the profession. The second aim is to provide a structure for developing scholarly forums that present cutting edge research and theory on marriage and family therapy to practitioners on an ongoing basis at the local, state, regional, national, and international level. The third aim is to recognize and promote the achievements of marriage and family therapy clinicians and scholars.
